Top Tips for Planning Your Trip

Your Punta Mita Mexico vacation starts here!

Beach Clubs

Guests frequently ask this question, and the closest airport is in Puerto Vallarta, which is about 45 minutes south of Punta Mita. This airport is called the Gustavo Diaz Ordaz International Airport, and the airport code is PVR. Private aircrafts are served by the Aerotron FBO, which is adjacent to PVR.

What is Hacienda de Mita?

Hacienda de Mita is a gated community within the Punta Mita development. Uniquely situated on beachfront property, Hacienda de Mita has its own beach club with a swimming pool, hot tub, clubhouse with ample shade and lounging areas, plus restrooms, kitchen facilities, and changing areas.

Beach Clubs in Punta Mita

A favorite way to relax here is at the Punta Mita beach clubs. Guests have included access to some beach clubs, while others are subject to a minimum consumption fee and availability. Many visitors spend a lot of time at these beach clubs, so as you're planning your Punta Mita Mexico vacation, be sure to get to know the unique features of each so you can make sure you're spending time at the beach clubs that work best for your group.

  • Pacifico Beach Club has sunset views, a great beachside restaurant and bar, separate kids' pool & play structure, and views of the Tail of the Whale hole on the Pacifico course.

  • Kupuri Beach Club has a serpentine pool, great sand and waves for playing in the water, a kids' club, and now features Hector's Kitchen for excellent cuisine with ocean views.

  • Hacienda Beach Club is for residents and guests staying in Hacienda de Mita condos. It features a hot tub, large pool & lounge chairs.

  • Sufi Ocean Club has a saltwater pool, views of the pier, and is next to Sufi restaurant.

  • El Surf Club now charges a minimum consumption fee of $50/adult and $25/child per day. We love the sand and waves at this beach, but note that it doesn't have a pool, and it's all on the sand so not ideal for people with mobility issues or strollers.

  • St. Regis Beach Club (Sea Breeze Beach Club) is open to Punta Mita guests but this is subject to capacity limitations, and also has a minimum consumption fee.

Inside the Gates in Punta Mita

Punta Mita is a luxury planned community on 1,500 acres north of Puerto Vallarta. It contains a mix of hotel properties and residences in a gated, secure development. If you're looking for a Punta Mita rental and want to be in the resort, make sure that the property is inside the gates. A house or condo rental in Punta Mita will give you access to the beach clubs and two golf courses. Be sure to also ask if the Punta Mita rental comes with Premier Golf membership to the beach clubs. The Premier Sport membership has limited access for guests at the beach clubs.

Hacienda de Mita Condos

Hacienda de Mita includes 12 condominium buildings inside the gates of Punta Mita. There are four buildings that are beach front (buildings 1-4) and are parallel to the beach. The remaining buildings are angled behind buildings 1-4, with buildings 5-8 behind the first row, and buildings 9-12 stacked behind the second row. Buildings 9-12 face the golf course with ocean views in the distance.

Hacienda de Mita Rentals

Many owners rent their Hacienda de Mita condos as vacation rentals. When looking for a Hacienda de Mita rental, here are some important questions to ask:

  • Does your rental include the use of a golf cart to get around the resort? The main form of transportation within the resort is via golf cart, and most HDM condos include one with their rental. You can rent an additional one if you think your group will often be going to different activities.

  • Do you have a Premier Golf membership? This level of membership gives guests access to the beach clubs and the two golf courses (greens fees do apply). It also gives guests access to the Fitness club and tennis and pickleball courts (additional fees apply for all of these).

  • Where is your condo located? If you want to be beachfront, make sure the condo is in building 1-4. Also, if you're traveling with another party and you plan to swim/lounge together at the pool outside your condo, make sure both rentals are in the same building. Otherwise, you'll want to plan group time at the Hacienda Beach Club.

  • Does your rental include a concierge service? Can your concierge assist with transportation plans to the Puerto Vallarta airport? Many Hacienda de Mita condo rentals include a concierge service to help with pre-trip planning. They can recommend private shuttle services for transportation to/from the airport, which is about a 45 minute drive.

  • Does your rental include a housekeeper and/or chef? Each condo is individually owned and has a unique mix of amenities. HDM #101 includes a daily housekeeper who cooks two meals plus a snack each day except her day off (Sunday--but our concierge can arrange for a chef to come in and cook for guests on that day as well!)

Tail of the Whale Hole 3b

Golf is a favorite activity in Punta Mita. The two Jack Nicklaus-designed golf courses feature 36 holes on 380 acres with Pacific Ocean views. The Pacifico course is home to the famous Tail of the Whale, the only natural island offshore hole in the world. Guests can book tee times up to 30 days in advance. For more golf information, contact the Punta Mita Golf Club. The Bahia golf course is a challenging course that offers sweeping views of Bahia de Banderas, plus water features and lakes. Stop by the Tail of the Whale clubhouse for breakfast or lunch and try their fajitas or fish tacos--two of our favorites!

The Tail of the Whale hole 3b at the Pacifico course is a natural island.
